I have often found it difficult to get a route planner that actually plots where you want to go rather than just sticking to roads. This is a great website that allows you to plot your trip and then it gives you all the information you need like distance and the time it should take to complete.
So whether you ride down the canal or across fields you can now get an idea of how far you have been and share it with others.
